The 42-year-old hails from Kozhikode district in the southern Indian state of Kerala. He was working as a driver for the past eight years and his friends told DT News he went missing on Friday.

His friends were frantically searching for him when police informed on Twitter that a body was found near the beach in Juffair. Police also stated the initial information indicated criminal suspicions. Gireesh’s friends later identified the dead body at the Salmania Medical Complex(SMC) mortuary.

He is survived by his wife Sijila and two children who are in India. His friends said Gireesh had sent a suicide message to his wife through his phone.

They said Gireesh may have committed suicide as he was under huge financial constraints.
