The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism and the National Revenue Authority inspected 139 shops and commercial establishments yesterday to ensure proper application of Value Added Tax.

The inspected shops were in Exhibition Street, Umm Al-Hassam, Muharraq, Khamis, East Riffa, West Riffa, Sitra, Al-Aali Complex, and Moda Mall.

Officials said they detected 98 violations that required administrative fines of up to BD10,000 and closed a store.

The ministry, officials said, is in the process of taking legal actions against violating establishments.

The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism and the National Revenue Authority called on establishments to adhere to the transitional phase of value-added tax.

The agency renewed its call to consumers and business owners to communicate and raise inquiries about VAT by contacting the call centre on the number 80008001 or sending inquiries and notes to vat@nbr. gov.bh.

VAT related information is also available on www.nbr.gov.bh.
