Anti-Cyber Crimes warn of scam e-mails

TDT | Manama

The General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security warned yesterday of scam e-mails, claiming to be from Apple and asking to verify the ID of the receiver. The e-mail claims someone is trying to access the receiver’s account, which pushed the company to suspend it. The e-mail asks to fill a form with personal information, including the credit card details to verify the account.

The directorate urges the public to check the e-mails they are receiving before responding to them, and highlighted that Apple would not send such e-mail requests. Any e-mails from the company would start with the full name of the account user and not “Dear client” or “Dear customer”, the directorate said. It added that they would also not send an attachment to be resent by the receiver, or ask for credit card details.
