A lawmaker called upon authorities to halt an “abusive and dull” show that is currently aired on Bahrain Television, it was announced yesterday.

MP Mohammed Al Jowder urged Information Affairs Minister Isa bin Abdulrahman Al Hammadi to take immediate action against “Har Barid” comedy show, which criticized the Parliament Council on its Thursday episode.

“Freedom of expression is granted by the decisions of the United Nations and Bahrain Constitution as a basic human right. However, this right should not be exploited in such a vulgar way, by defaming and insulting others careers,” said Al Jowder.

The MP highly criticized the show’s episode on parliament council, which he termed “very disappointing and low-leveled.”

He commented, “The show reflected the ignorance of the people working in it. They are clearly attacking the council, which is the highest legislative authority in the country and the main fruit of His Majesty the King’s reformation project.”

Al Jowder urged the minister to “put an end to this farce.” He asked, “What is the budget set to make this programme, which is intended to defame MPs and politicians, and is way far from entertaining citizens.”

The show, which is aired on Bahrain Television twice a day includes a cast of Bahraini comedians and ex-MP Ali Shamtoot, who is the main character in most of its episodes.

Since the beginning of Ramadan, the show discussed vital social issues, highlighting the negligent directorates and departments in official authorities.
