Geneva, Switzerland: UN rights chief Volker Turk on Thursday urged the US state of Tennessee not to make a new attempt to execute convicted murderer Christa Pike.

The urgent appeal came after Pike survived two lethal injection doses during the failed execution attempt.

In a statement posted on X, the UN rights office condemned the incident and highlighted the severe impact on the inmate.

The office stated that the prolonged physical and mental suffering arising from multiple failed execution attempts is abhorrent and cruel.

Consequently, Turk strongly urged state authorities not to pursue any further attempt to execute Pike.
