The Minister of Health chairs the meeting of the National Committee to Combat Chronic Diseases

Mrs. Faiqa bint Saeed Al-Saleh, Minister of Health, chaired the work of the second meeting of 2020 for the National Committee for the Control of Chronic Noncommunicable Diseases, which was held remotely, with the participation of all committee members.

His Excellency the Minister expressed her thanks and appreciation to the members of the committee and their fruitful role towards supporting and developing plans and strategies related to the work of the National Committee for the benefit of Bahraini society.

During the meeting, the proposal submitted by Dr. Nisreen Al-Sayed, Consultant Diabetes, Endocrinology and Lipidopathy, President-elect of the American Society of Endocrinology in the Gulf, was discussed to establish a national registry of cholesterol patients. This registry aims to promote and support studies, medical research and action plans that ensure the necessary follow-up and the latest advanced treatments in favor of diagnosing and treating lipid imbalance and high cholesterol.

The meeting reviewed the latest developments in the healthy cities program in the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the results of the healthy mall project under the supervision and follow-up of the Health Promotion Department, presented by Dr. Wafaa Al-Sharbti, Director of the Health Promotion Department, in addition to reviewing and discussing a summary of the final results of the study of the feasibility of investing in the prevention of non-communicable diseases in the Kingdom Bahrain and submitted by Dr. Najat Abu Al-Fateh, Director of the Public Health Department at the Ministry of Health.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Her Excellency thanked the members of the committee for their contributions and initiatives in making this meeting a success in order to come up with visions and recommendations that contribute to the continuation of the activation of plans, policies, and programs that affect ways to combat chronic diseases and their health implications for society.
