Sana’a: Saudi airstrikes on a market on the outskirts of Taiz in southeastern Yemen killed dozens of people, according to Yemen's Houthi group. According to Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree, Saudi Arabia launched two air raids in the area, killing or injuring roughly 50 people.
The Houthi-run Al-Masirah media channel first reported seven deaths and 40 injuries in the strike. It later reported, citing the Houthi health ministry, that five children were among those injured. Houthi sources later informed sources that the strikes killed approximately 30 fighters and eight civilians.
Al-Masirah released footage of damaged warehouses and vehicles with shattered windows in the aftermath of the purported strikes. The casualty estimates and target specifications have not been independently verified, and Saudi authorities have not officially confirmed the purported attack or Houthi casualties.
The strikes come as combat between Houthi rebels and Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces has escalated following the breakdown of a period of relative peace. Taiz is a critical front line in Yemen's conflict, which has re-escalated following years of reduced combat under the 2022 truce.
