Premier League Returns With A Bang
Action from last season’s penultimate round, when Muharraq beat Al Khaldiya to take top spot

The 2026-2027 Nasser bin Hamad Premier League returns tomorrow after the domestic break, with defending champions Muharraq facing early leaders Al Khaldiya in the headline fixture of Matchweek Four.

Last season’s title rivals meet at Khalifa Sports City Stadium, renewing a battle that went down to the wire as Muharraq edged Al Khaldiya by a single point to claim a successive league crown.

Their fortunes have differed at the start of the new campaign. Croatian coach Goran Tomic has guided Al Khaldiya to seven points from three matches, leaving them top of the standings with two wins and a draw.

Muharraq, meanwhile, resume their title defence with just one point and a new head coach in Portuguese Helder Cristovao following a turbulent start to the season.

Isa Al Saadoon was dismissed after the opening two rounds, having overseen a draw with Al Ahli and a defeat to newly promoted Al Ettifaq, before Mohammed Adnan Ayoub took temporary charge.

The Red Wolves appeared to have responded with a 3-1 victory over Manama in Matchweek Three, only for the result to be overturned and recorded as a 3-0 defeat after they fielded Mohamed Al Banna despite his name being absent from the official squad list.

Cristovao therefore faces an immediate test against an unbeaten Al Khaldiya side as he looks to steady the holders' campaign.

Tomorrow’s other fixture sees Malkiya take on Riffa at Bahrain National Stadium.

Matchweek Four continues on Saturday, with Manama facing Al Ahli at Khalifa Sports City and Hidd meeting Al Ettifaq at the National Stadium.

Sunday brings the round to a close with another double-header, as East Riffa face A’Ali at Khalifa Sports City and Sitra take on Al Najma at Al Ahli Club Stadium.

All matches kick off at 7pm.
