NPRA Undersecretary examines systems for detecting document and biometric fraud during ICAO symposium in Canada
H.E Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Interior Ministry Undersecretary for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA), reviewed advanced technologies aimed at improving border security and passenger processing during a visit to Canada.
The visit took place on the sidelines of the 21st Symposium and Exhibition on the ICAO Traveller Identification Programme (TRIP), held at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) headquarters in Montreal.
H.E reviewed the latest border management solutions, including Smart Corridor technology and advanced systems designed to detect forged travel documents and biometric fraud.
He was also briefed on the use of artificial intelligence to examine electronic travel documents and identify morphing attempts, where images of different people are combined to create a single identity image that could potentially allow one document to be used by multiple individuals.
The Smart Corridor system was also demonstrated, allowing travellers’ identities to be verified as they move through designated areas without stopping at conventional checkpoints.
H.E highlighted Bahrain’s efforts to adopt emerging technologies and international best practices to further develop border management systems at Bahrain International Airport.
The initiatives are intended to strengthen security procedures, speed up passenger processing and provide travellers with a smoother and more efficient airport experience.
