I write about Bahrain's built environment and its sense of self — heritage and development, and the hard question underneath every project: who, exactly, is the city being remade for.

My Background

I trained as an architect before turning to journalism, which means I read a masterplan and a marketing brochure with the same suspicious eye.

Journalistic Ethics

I write for the residents who have to live in the result, not for the developers who send the press releases. I go and look before I judge.
