Islamabad: Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has urged the authorities to ensure former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan is treated fairly in prison.

Akram said he misses Khan as a friend, mentor and leader, recalling their time together in the Pakistan team that won the 1992 World Cup. He also thanked former international captains who recently signed a petition calling for Khan’s rights to be respected.

Khan, 73, has been in prison since August 2023 after being convicted in several cases, which he has described as politically motivated. Akram said Khan should receive treatment similar to that given to other politicians and expressed hope that he would be released soon.

The former fast bowler has previously spoken about concerns over Khan’s health, urging authorities to provide him with the best possible medical care.
