Seoul: Washington and Pyongyang are showing signs of potentially resuming diplomatic talks, following a closed-door briefing by South Korea's intelligence agency.

South Korean lawmaker Youn Kun-young told reporters that intelligence assessments suggest a high-level summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un could take place at any time. However, officials noted that no direct communication or specific contacts have been formally confirmed between the two nations so far.

The development follows recent moves by President Trump to scale back joint military exercises with South Korea, alongside statements expressing a desire to meet Kim before the end of the year.

Briefings from the National Intelligence Service also touched on internal North Korean developments, noting that Kim's daughter, Ju Ae, continues to be positioned as his potential successor. Additionally, intelligence officials dismissed reports that Pyongyang plans to deploy tens of thousands of additional troops to Russia, describing further military deployments to Ukraine as unlikely for now.
