Washington DC: The United States and roughly 40 partner nations have issued a joint statement demanding at least 24 hours' advance notice before any ballistic missile tests.
The warning comes a month after China launched a nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile into the Pacific Ocean with minimal warning.
In their joint declaration, the coalition emphasised that conducting nuclear-capable ballistic missile tests without sufficient advance notice is dangerous and disrupts regional peace.
They warned that unannounced launches heighten the risk of miscalculation, undermine global stability, and fail to reflect responsible long-range missile ownership.
To ensure safety, the countries called for mandatory launch notifications that specify the missile class, planned launch window, direction, and target area at least a day in advance. Additionally, clear notices must be provided to airmen and mariners consistent with international standards to safeguard landing zones.
The collective push follows Beijing giving short notice to only a few nations before flexing its military reach in the Pacific. Monitors noted that the test rocket landed in the ocean between the Solomon Islands, Nauru, and Tuvalu.
