Frankfurt: Vladimir Z., a Ukrainian national, was arrested in the Croatian city of Pula on Wednesday according to a European arrest warrant issued by Germany. German prosecutors accuse him of being a certified scuba diver who helped install explosives on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines on Denmark's Bornholm Island in September 2022.

Vladimir Z. is accused of being a member of a group commanded by Serhii K., another Ukrainian national who has already been charged in Germany with sabotage. According to German prosecutors, the organization purposefully targeted the pipelines in order to permanently impair Russian gas supplies and prevent Moscow from making revenue from them.

The suspect is expected to be deported to Germany, where he will face an investigative judge. The September 2022 explosions badly damaged both pipelines, prompting a major international inquiry.
