Kyiv: Ukraine has ruled Russia's planned September parliamentary elections in occupied Ukrainian areas illegal and its results invalid, claiming Russia lacks the legal power to hold elections on Ukrainian soil.

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry also opposed Russia's use of international observers, suggesting that their presence might give the vote the appearance of legality. Kyiv asked observers, especially those from the Commonwealth of Independent States, not to travel to the seized territories to monitor the polls.

Russia has continued to hold elections in territory it claims to have seized, including parts of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson, despite Ukraine and many of the international community rejecting those claims.
