US President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Oman amid ongoing discussions involving Iran over the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important global shipping route.
Speaking to Fox News journalist Trey Yingst, Trump reportedly said, “If Oman gets in the way, we’ll bomb them,” referring to negotiations between Oman and Iran over the strait.
Trump also called on Iran to surrender, saying that Tehran should “put up the white flag of surrender.”
The remarks come as Washington pursues its own discussions with Iran while Oman continues its diplomatic engagement. Trump’s comments have added further tension to an already sensitive situation surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.
The waterway is a major international energy corridor, making developments around its security closely watched by governments and global markets.
