US President Donald Trump said Sunday that he does not object to Gulf countries meeting with Iran to discuss the situation around the Strait of Hormuz.

Asked by reporters during his visit to Ireland about a planned meeting between Gulf states and Iran in Oman, Trump responded: “I don’t care. That’s up to them.”

The meeting comes amid heightened tensions over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime route for global energy shipments. Iran and regional countries are expected to discuss arrangements for shipping through the waterway, while the wider US-Iran conflict continues.

The planned talks follow recent efforts involving Oman to establish arrangements for maritime traffic through the strait, although Iran has said a full reopening remains linked to conditions involving the United States.
