Bangkok: Following a fatal school shooting involving a 14 years old boy, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul banned the issue of new gun purchase permits and ordered a review of current gun licences.

On August 7, the teenager allegedly killed his grandparents before opening fire at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, outside Bangkok. The attack killed several persons and injured around 30. The gun used in the attack allegedly belonged to his grandfather.

The prime minister stated that the government would tighten firearm ownership rules and reassess existing licenses in order to prevent more gun violence.

Following the attack, the suspect also died. As Thailand grieved the shooting victims, his grandparents were cremated. The incident has sparked new calls for stricter gun control laws throughout the nation.
