The First High Criminal Court has adjourned the case of a 23-year-old student accused of deliberately setting fire to a family home on April 4, 2026. The case was adjourned until September 14 to bring the defendant from detention and determine the value of the damage.

According to his sister’s testimony, the defendant had asked her for money, which she refused to provide because she believed he spent money on drugs. He allegedly threatened to burn the house and later sent a message to the family WhatsApp group saying he had started a fire.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze after the defendant’s room was discovered on fire. A Civil Defence report concluded that the fire had been deliberately started, completely destroying one room and causing heavy smoke damage to four others. The defendant admitted the charges during the investigation.
