SEOUL: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's daughter and apparent heir, Kim Ju Ae, is believed to have a younger sibling, South Korea's intelligence agency revealed Thursday, offering new details on the regime's ruling family structure.

The National Intelligence Service currently assesses that Kim Ju Ae is actively being groomed as the country's next leader and understands she has a younger sibling of unknown gender.

The agency is continuing to verify whether an older brother exists, though it believes he is not positioned to become successor.

South Korean officials previously reported that Kim Jong Un likely has three children, though uncertainty has persisted regarding their exact order of birth.

Kim Ju Ae was first introduced publicly in 2022 when she accompanied her father to an intercontinental ballistic missile launch.

Since her public debut, Ju Ae has attended numerous major political events, including a high-profile diplomatic visit to Beijing. North Korean state media has increasingly highlighted her status, describing her as the ‘beloved child’ and a ‘great person of guidance’ a designation reserved for top leaders.

The Kim family has maintained an iron grip on North Korea for decades, supported by a pervasive cult of personality surrounding their so-called ‘Paektu bloodline’.
