Typhoon Dujuan Disrupts Japan, 275 Flights Cancelled

Tokyo: Typhoon Dujuan is moving toward Japan's Pacific coast, bringing torrential rain and strong gusts to the Kanto region, including Tokyo, and prompting warnings of potentially record-breaking rainfall.
At least 275 flights are cancelled throughout Japan. Japan Airlines cancelled 120 domestic and 15 international flights, and All Nippon Airways cancelled 140 domestic flights. Railway companies in Tokyo and surrounding areas have also halted service on certain routes.
The Japan Meteorological Agency cautioned that rainfall could increase as the typhoon approaches the Kanto region. It warned that rainfall through Tuesday might exceed the norm for the entire month of September, increasing the risk of flooding, landslides, and other rain-related calamities.
More than 4,000 households in Chiba Prefecture remained without power on Monday. Some regions along Japan's Pacific coast and the Izu Islands have already received more than 300 millimetres of rain since Saturday.
The storm has also disrupted important events. The Tokyo Game Show was cancelled on the penultimate day, as did a music event and a baseball game in Chiba. The Asian Games equestrian eventing competition in Aichi was postponed due to inclement weather.
Authorities have encouraged residents in affected areas to remain vigilant, as strong gusts, flash flooding, and landslides remain a hazard.
