Trump to Meet Gulf Leaders in New York to Discuss Iran War

US President Donald Trump is expected to meet leaders and foreign ministers from the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries next Tuesday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, according to a report by Axios citing three sources familiar with the plans.
The meeting is expected to focus on the ongoing conflict with Iran and US ideas for a postwar strategy. Representatives from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman are expected to attend after the US State Department sent initial invitations. The meeting could also be expanded to include other Arab and Muslim leaders, according to the report.
The Trump administration has been developing a broader strategy for the Middle East following the Iran war, with officials considering regional security arrangements and other diplomatic initiatives.
Trump said Wednesday that he hoped the conflict was nearing its end and indicated that Iran was seeking a deal, although Reuters reported that there was no immediate indication that the war was close to ending.
