Washington: US President Donald Trump said Thursday that the US and Poland were making ‘significant progress’ in establishing a US Army post in Poland, with the location expected to be announced soon.
Trump praised Polish President Karol Nawrocki's efforts in supporting the idea, calling the proposed facility a historic step for the US-Polish partnership.
Poland has been pursuing a permanent US military deployment as part of its efforts to fortify NATO's eastern flank following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Approximately 10,000 US troops are now stationed in Poland, primarily on a rotational basis.
Nawrocki stated that Poland was ready to continue strengthening defence cooperation with Washington and would endeavour to find a suitable location for the planned base.
However, no final decision about the base has been made. The development comes as Washington assesses its overall military commitment in Europe, raising questions about the future deployment of US personnel across the continent.
