The Arab League Backs Saudi Arabia After Houthi Attacks
The Arab League called the Houthi attacks a 'dangerous and unacceptable escalation'
New York: Arab organisations and officials have voiced strong support for Saudi Arabia following recent Houthi attacks, condemning the escalation as a violation of international law and a threat to regional security.
The Arab League described the attacks as a ‘dangerous and unacceptable escalation’ that violated Saudi sovereignty and endangered civilians. It expressed full solidarity with Riyadh and backed measures taken by the Kingdom to protect its security and citizens.
Arab Parliament President Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi also condemned the attack on Riyadh, calling it a threat to Arab national security. He urged the UN and Security Council to take action against the attacks.
The UN Security Council has likewise condemned continued Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed the Kingdom’s right to self-defence under international law.
Arab officials warned that further escalation could threaten Red Sea maritime security, increase economic losses and undermine stability across the region. Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy called for respect for international law, the UN Charter and Security Council Resolution 2216, which calls on the Houthis to stop threats against neighbouring states.
