End to Two-Year Birth Certificate Crisis

MANAMA: Resolving a complex legal and documentation crisis that spanned nearly two years, an Indian mother and her two young children have safely returned home to Kerala, thanks to the timely intervention of the Pravasi Legal Cell (PLC) Bahrain Chapter. Arunima Baby and her children, Griva Mariyam and Sayan Mohammad, departed for Kochi aboard an Air India flight on Thursday morning.

The family's ordeal began when they were unable to return to India due to missing birth certificates and related official documents for the children. Facing severe financial hardship and struggling for basic necessities without steady employment, the mother approached the Pravasi Legal Cell in March 2026. PLC provided immediate humanitarian assistance, including food and shelter support, while initiating legal proceedings through its panel advocate, Adv. Tariq Alon. Months of persistent efforts in court ultimately yielded a favorable verdict, clearing the primary legal roadblock for their repatriation.

Several community members and organizations rallied to support the family during the resolution process. Management at a private medical centre granted a 70 percent waiver on pending medical bills, while the family's landlord compassionately allowed them to stay rent-free for ten months. Key coordination from former Indian Ambassador Vinod K. Jacob, the Embassy's welfare team, and Bahrain Immigration authorities further expedited their departure formalities.

Following the successful resolution, PLC Bahrain Chapter President Sudheer Thirunilath urged expatriate parents to prioritize the timely registration of birth certificates, passports, and residency permits for newborns, warning that minor delays in documentation can escalate into severe legal and immigration challenges.
