Saudi Arabia Reaffirms Commitment to International Law at UN Security Council
Kingdom calls for civilian protection, accountability for violations, and peaceful solutions to armed conflicts.
Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed that respect for international law and the UN Charter is fundamental to maintaining international peace and security and protecting civilians during armed conflicts.
Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting in New York on Wednesday, Saudi Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil stressed the importance of protecting civilians, civilian infrastructure, and humanitarian and medical workers.
He also called for respect for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of states, as well as non-interference in their internal affairs.
Saudi Arabia emphasized the need to apply international law consistently and without double standards, while strengthening accountability for violations. The Kingdom also urged greater reliance on dialogue, peaceful means, and mediation to resolve conflicts and reduce their humanitarian and security consequences.
Saudi Arabia reiterated its support for international efforts to strengthen respect for international humanitarian law, protect civilians and promote peaceful solutions to conflicts.
