Nearly 3,000 Women Face Risk of Giving Birth Without Medical Care in Yemen: UN

Aden: The UN Population Fund (UNFPA) warned that over 2,700 pregnant women displaced by growing conflict in Yemen face the risk of giving birth without access to expert medical care.
The recent escalation along Yemen's western coast and southern Ta'iz frontlines has reportedly displaced more than 120,000 people, including approximately 30,000 reproductive-age women. According to UNFPA, at least 500 pregnant women require emergency obstetric and newborn care, with around 300 women likely to give birth in the next two weeks.
The fighting has prompted numerous reproductive health services and safe places to cease or operate at reduced capacity. Emergency obstetric and neonatal facilities in sections of Ta'iz Governorate have closed, forcing women to travel lengthy and perilous distances to seek medical care.
According to UNFPA, damaged roads, hazardous shelters, and restricted healthcare capacity have resulted in some displaced women giving birth without competent attendants.
The agency is requesting $22.7 million to increase emergency support, which includes reproductive healthcare and protection programs for conflict-affected women and girls.
