Following a tip-off, Italian police uncovered a massive cash haul, weapons, and luxury watches hidden inside the walls of a drug lord's property near Naples.
Rome, Italy: Italian police found over three million euros in cash stashed inside the walls of an alleged drug lord's house following a tip-off. The massive cash haul, along with weapons and luxury watches, was uncovered in Caivano, a suburb of Naples overrun by the Camorra mafia.
Naples Prosecutor Nicola Gratteri explained that detectives had to dismantle parts of the property because bundles of cash were hidden in wall compartments, under floors, and beneath a shower tray. The raid also yielded Kalashnikovs, other weapons, and 11 Rolex watches monitored by a 24-hour surveillance team.
The seizure stems from an investigation initiated in 2023 that culminated in the arrest of 34 people accused of belonging to an armed criminal association trafficking narcotics using mafiosi methods.
The critical tip-off came from a suspect arrested in July 2025 who turned state witness, prompting intensive police wiretaps.
Gratteri emphasised the essential role of wiretaps in organized crime investigations while criticizing recent government restrictions on intercepted communications.
Although state interventions have targeted Caivano following previous local scandals, officials note that illegal drug dealing continues to adapt and shift across territories.
