Fires break out at shops in East Jerusalem village after clashes
Palestinian officials say tear gas and stun grenades used by Israeli forces sparked fires during a confrontation in Sur Baher.
Sur Baher, East Jerusalem: Fires broke out at several commercial shops in the Palestinian village of Sur Baher on Sunday after clashes between residents and Israeli forces, Palestinian officials said.
The Jerusalem Governorate said tear gas and stun grenades fired during the confrontation at the village entrance ignited the fires. Videos shared on social media showed first responders trying to put out the flames.
The incident came amid heightened tensions in occupied East Jerusalem. Palestinian reports said Israeli occupiers entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and performed Jewish prayers in its courtyards on Sunday.
The developments followed visits and religious activities by Israeli officials and occupiers ahead of Yom Kippur. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and others entered the Al-Aqsa compound, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited tunnels beneath occupied East Jerusalem and later shared images of himself taking part in Jewish Selichot prayers at the Al-Buraq Wall.
