Tehran: Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran on Monday in an effort to broker a diplomatic resolution to the escalating conflict between Iran and the United States.

The high-level talks in Iran followed a direct telephone discussion between General Munir and US President Donald Trump late last week. During his visit, the Pakistani military chief also held meetings with Iranian Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Mohsen Rezaei, the head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, as Islamabad attempts to revive stalled negotiations.

The diplomatic push comes at a critical juncture as Washington steps up pressure on Tehran. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a new campaign of economic asphyxiation on Monday, warning of severe secondary sanctions against nations that fail to comply with expanded US measures against Iran.
