ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s government announced it will file a review petition against a Supreme Court directive ordering jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan to be transferred to a private hospital for medical evaluation.
Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar stated the ruling does not fall within the law, maintaining that incarcerated individuals must receive medical care in prison or public facilities unless proof demonstrates those hospitals cannot provide adequate treatment.
The decision follows a three-judge Supreme Court bench ruling directing authorities to move the 73-year-old former leader from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad within two days.
The court mandated forming a medical panel involving Khan’s personal physician while granting him weekly family visits and phone calls with his sons, warning that political misuse of his health updates could revoke the order.
