The Lower Criminal Court sentenced a defendant to one year in prison and ordered the confiscation of his mobile phone after he published social media posts containing offensive remarks about Islamic figures.

The case began after the Cybercrime Combating Directorate reported the posts to the Public Prosecution, noting that they had been widely circulated and could incite discord and undermine social cohesion.

The defendant admitted publishing the posts during questioning. The Cybercrime Prosecution said it would continue to take firm action against the unlawful use of social media, including offences involving religious figures and sanctities.
