External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow yesterday and handed over a "personal message" from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Jaishankar said he briefed Putin on discussions held during the 27th India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC), covering economic cooperation, nuclear energy, fertilisers and other areas.

According to the Kremlin, Putin highlighted the longstanding strength of India-Russia relations and welcomed the recent rise in bilateral trade after a slight decline in 2025. He credited Prime Minister Modi's personal attention to strengthening ties.

Putin also asked Jaishankar to convey his warm regards to Modi and said he hoped to meet him soon at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation events, with another meeting possible later this year.

The Russian President said cooperation remains strong in areas including energy, fertilisers, nuclear power and high technology, adding that Russia is ready to increase fertiliser supplies to support Indian agriculture.

Jaishankar described India-Russia ties as a "strong, robust bilateral partnership" and said economic cooperation had grown significantly.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov and senior officials from both countries also attended the meeting.
