His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, chaired the Council’s 2026 meeting, where members reviewed several strategic initiatives aimed at developing the youth and sports sectors and improving quality of life.
The meeting coincided with International Youth Day, with Shaikh Nasser congratulating Bahraini youth and praising their achievements across various fields. He stressed the importance of investing in young people and developing programmes that respond to their aspirations and contribute to sustainable development.
A key initiative reviewed was a special visa for professional athletes and their families. The proposed framework aims to simplify entry and residency procedures, protect athletes’ rights, support national clubs and strengthen the competitiveness of the professional sports sector.
The Council directed the completion of the necessary procedures to approve the initiative, with the General Authority for Sports tasked with coordinating with the Ministry of Interior and other relevant authorities.
The Council also reviewed an initiative focused on calorie awareness and healthier lifestyles. It stressed the importance of raising public health awareness, encouraging healthy nutrition and supporting preventive health programmes.
