WELSH: Harry Potter fans have successfully persuaded energy developers to reroute a £430 million underground power cable to protect Dobby the house-elf’s fictional grave in Wales.
The initial path for the Greenlink interconnector, designed to link the UK and Irish power grids, was set to run directly through the fan-made memorial at Freshwater West beach in Pembrokeshire.
However, after project leaders were flooded with hundreds of protesting phone calls from fans who spotted the proposal on a news broadcast, engineers redesigned the route to completely bypass the site.
Freshwater West served as the iconic filming location for Dobby’s tragic death scene in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Over the years, the beach has become a pilgrimage site for fans who leave painted rocks and socks in tribute. By adjusting their infrastructure plans, developers ensured the beloved pop-culture memorial remains entirely untouched.
