Mérignac, France: French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced emergency relief measures for wildfire-damaged regions in southwest France, attempting to address public dissatisfaction following hostile jeers from locals.
The government pledged 12 million euros in immediate aid, allocating 10 million to Gironde and two million to Landes alongside fast-tracked permits to rebuild homes within a month.
Before the announcement, around 200 black-clad residents heckled Lecornu in Le Porge, where 183 homes were destroyed. Disgruntled locals accused authorities of prioritizing affluent resort areas over resident communities.
The devastating wildfires burned 42,000 hectares and displaced over 220,000 people before being brought under control on August 1. Lecornu defended government actions, insisting operations were fully transparent.
