Fraud Case Ends in Jail Term

Court upholds prison sentence and fine over forged records used to obtain government support.

The Fifth High Criminal Appeals Court upheld a one-year prison sentence and BD1,000 fine against a defendant convicted of forging electronic and private documents to unlawfully obtain more than BD50,000 from Tamkeen and the Social Insurance Organisation.

The case followed complaints that forged documents and false information were submitted through electronic systems to obtain wage support and social insurance benefits. The court had sentenced five defendants to prison terms ranging from 10 years to one year, while acquitting another defendant for lack of conclusive evidence.
