Islamabad: Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan will be moved from jail to a hospital following an order by the country’s Supreme Court.

Justice Shahid Waheed ruled that the 73-year-old leader must be shifted within two days to Shifa International Hospital in the capital Islamabad for medical checks. The directive came after his lawyers filed a petition over claims of his poor health.

Khan has been imprisoned on corruption charges since 2023 and was sentenced to 17 years behind bars late last year. He previously received hospital treatment after his family reported significant vision loss in his right eye.

The former cricket captain served as prime minister from 2018 until his removal in a 2022 no-confidence vote. Khan and his party maintain that all legal cases against him are politically motivated.
