Washington: Major US medical groups have issued their own vaccination recommendations for the coming flu and respiratory-virus season, citing a lack of updated federal guidance under the Trump administration.

The American Academy of Paediatrics, American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America all urge Americans to continue getting the recommended flu, COVID-19, and RSV vaccines.

The groups' proposals go beyond current federal guidance, including support for routine COVID-19 vaccination for select young adults, children, and pregnant women. The action comes as the CDC's typical vaccine-guidance procedure is still hampered by legal and regulatory changes.

Medical organisations said their guideline is designed to provide consistent, science-based advice as Americans confront conflicting vaccine messages ahead of the autumn and winter virus seasons.

The development reflects rising tensions between major medical organisations and the Trump administration over vaccine policy and public-health recommendations.
