A Porter Airlines aircraft from Victoria to Toronto was grounded after a young child repeatedly refused to sit down and tighten their seatbelt while taxiing. The father and cabin crew reportedly tried multiple times to secure the infant, but failed.

The plane returned to the gate, and the parent and child were removed, along with their luggage. However, the flight was delayed past Victoria International Airport's 12:30 a.m. runway operating time, causing the carrier to cancel the operation.

The remaining passengers had to evacuate and be rebooked on a trip the next day, leaving many people stuck overnight. Airline apologised to the affected passengers.

Canadian aviation rules require passengers to properly fasten their safety belts when ordered by the captain or cabin crew, making the crew's decision to postpone take-off a safety obligation rather than an option.

The event has ignited an internet debate about child behaviour, parental responsibility, and how airlines should handle rowdy young customers without affecting hundreds of other passengers.
