Court orders seller to refund BD9,500 after vehicle was found to have hidden US crash history

A Bahraini woman has secured a court ruling cancelling the purchase of a 2017 Mercedes-Benz C300 after discovering three years later that the vehicle had been imported from the United States and previously suffered major accident damage.

The woman purchased the car for BD12,500 after being told it was a Gulf-spec vehicle with no recorded accidents.

A later inspection found extensive damage to the front and both sides, along with replaced parts. Further checks showed the vehicle had been involved in a major accident in Miami.

A court-appointed expert found that the defects were hidden and that repairs were insufficient. The vehicle was valued at BD9,300 at the time of purchase, while estimated repairs would cost BD3,850.

The High Civil Court of Appeal upheld the ruling to rescind the sale contract. The seller was ordered to refund BD9,500 after deducting BD3,000 for the woman’s three years of use; she must return the vehicle.
