Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Director-General of the General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, received US Ambassador to Bahrain Stephanie Hallett during her visit to the Open Prisons Complex.

The visit focused on strengthening Bahrain-US cooperation, exchanging expertise and reviewing the latest developments in Bahrain’s Open Prisons Programme.

Shaikh Khalid highlighted the deep-rooted relations and strategic partnership between Bahrain and the United States, noting the continued cooperation between the two countries across various fields.

The meeting reviewed developments in the Open Prisons Programme, including initiatives aimed at supporting beneficiaries, developing their skills and facilitating their successful reintegration into society.

Discussions also covered areas of mutual interest and opportunities to exchange expertise and benefit from international best practices.

During the visit, Ambassador Hallett toured the Open Prisons Complex and was briefed on its facilities, services and programmes. She also learned about the integrated environment provided to beneficiaries to support their rehabilitation and prepare them to return to society and contribute positively to their communities.

The meeting also highlighted cooperation with specialised US institutions, including the American Correctional Association (ACA). Bahrain’s Open Prisons Programme became the first entity outside the United States to receive ACA accreditation, reflecting its commitment to international standards and best practices.

At the conclusion of the visit, Ambassador Hallett praised the development of the Open Prisons Programme and the programmes offered to beneficiaries.

Shaikh Khalid stressed the importance of continuing Bahrain-US cooperation and exchanging expertise to further develop rehabilitation and reintegration programmes and initiatives.
