Bahrain will be represented by Abdulla Bassam and Fawzia Abdulla Sakhir at the 2026 Asian Cadet, Junior, Youth and U21 Karate Championships, currently being held in Amman, Jordan.

Bassam will compete in the cadet boys’ under-52kg kumite category, while Sakhir is entered in the junior girls’ under-66kg division. The pair are accompanied by national coach Mohammed Al Arabi Boumzbar.

Bassam will be the first in action when he contests the qualifying rounds today, while Sakhir will undergo her official weigh-in ahead of her campaign tomorrow.

Boumzbar said the pair head into the championships with high ambitions and sees the continental event as an important opportunity to test themselves against some of Asia’s leading young karatekas.

“Our goal is for the players to benefit from this continental participation and produce performances that reflect the development of Bahraini karate,” he said.

“We will do everything we can to achieve the best possible results and raise Bahrain’s flag at this Asian event.”
