Port-au-Prince: Around 40 displaced individuals have been killed after armed gang members stormed a church shelter in Kenscoff, a town situated in the hills southeast of Haiti's capital.

Mayor Massillon Jean confirmed that the attackers raided the displaced persons camp on Sunday night, carrying out execution-style killings, injuring dozens, and kidnapping several inhabitants. Search and rescue operations remain active as several residents are still reported missing following the assault. The massacre represents a major escalation in the mountainous district, which has endured months of violent incursions as criminal groups attempt to widen their territorial influence.

Haitian authorities under Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé pledged to deploy security forces to the area to restore control. The latest wave of violence hits a nation where nearly 1.5 million people are internally displaced and over 5 million face acute food shortages amidst widespread gang activity across the capital.
