Geneva: At least 350 humanitarian aid workers were killed worldwide in 2025, with Gaza and Sudan recording the highest number of deaths, the United Nations said Monday, describing the toll as ‘unacceptable.’
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), 186 relief workers were killed in Gaza, and 71 in Sudan. For the third year in a row, Gaza remained the deadliest site for humanitarian workers.
The 2025 death toll was somewhat fewer than the 377 relief workers killed in 2024, which is still the bloodiest year on record. OCHA reported that 907 humanitarian workers were killed, injured, or kidnaped globally last year.
The United Nations condemned attacks on humanitarian workers and emphasised the importance of protecting aid workers who work in conflict zones and in dangerous environments.
